Just after the Sandy Hook Elementary tragedy, I wrote about my commitment to making our mornings better. Part of my plan was to purchase Cleaning House: A Mom’s 12-Month Experiment to Rid Her Home of Youth Entitlement by Kay Wills Wyma. Kay’s book is about much more than cleaning up; it’s about getting the whole family to act like a family: a group of people who are all in this together. The kids are not too young, or too old, to help out without fussing. And along they way, they’ll develop a can-do spirit and mom will learn how to let go.

On Friday morning, December 14, we sleepily hustled Grace off to school. Meg had been in the ER the night before, getting home at 4 a.m. The morning was harried, everyone was stumbling through our routine. But it was pretty typical.
Last week, we talked about birthday parties for twins … boy/girl party ideas, great cakes and an Alice in Wonderland party for twin girls. Today, I’m wrapping things up with some of my favorite party invitations for twins.

All this week, I’m focusing on throwing birthday parties for twins. I was so excited to get this submission from RoseMarie of Home Confetti. RoseMarie created this Alice in Wonderland party for her daughters’ joint fifth birthday.
The big question with twin parties is how to make it special for each child. One way is with your cake choices. I’ve done this a couple of ways: two cakes, or one cake with something for each girl. RoseMarie of Home Confetti tells me that for her twin girls she usually does cupcakes, which is a more flexible and less costly alternative. (We’ll see one of RoseMarie’s twin parties tomorrow!)
I did two cakes the first several years until the girls didn’t really care anymore. Yes, this is more expensive if you purchase your cake. But, if you had two children born at different times, you’d have two parties — not just two cakes, so to my way of thinking, it is a reasonable cost.

One thing that becomes clear very quickly in the party world is that there are a lot of party planning twin mommas! As a mom of twins myself, I have 7 double birthdays under my belt and we’re busy planning the 8th party right now.
